Micronutrients vs Macronutrients
Every diet, dietician, and health coach is glorifying “micronutrients” and “macronutrients”. It’s even placed on the labels of many food products in order to sell them. Athletes and influencers are posting what micros and macros they eat. Anyone who has lost or is losing weight is boasting and bragging about it. What does it all mean?
Food has an impact on your health. Eating high quality, whole, real, natural foods is essential in nourishing the body and protecting it from inflammation and oxidative stress. If you don’t take in the nutrients, you may suffer from low energy, lack of sleep, chronic illness, chronic pain, poor libido, dull skin, bags under the eyes and a plethora of other health conditions.
Let me make it simple and easy:
Macronutrients are the nutrients your body NEEDS IN LARGER AMOUNTS. Macro means large. These nutrients are carbohydrates (yep, you NEED the “C” Word), proteins, and fats.
Carbs, Proteins, and Fats provide your body with energy and calories.
Micronutrients are the nutrients your body NEEDS IN SMALLER AMOUNTS. Micro means small. These nutrients are your vitamins and minerals. We need these vitamins and minerals (i.e. Vitamin B, C, D, Zinc, Magnesium, Potassium, Iron, Calcium, etc.) to help our body be healthy and digest the macronutrients.
Macro and Micronutrients are the dynamic, power duo! We need them both!
